When it comes to liveability, Abu Dhabi and Dubai aren’t just winning—they’re owning the stage. These two cities have solidified their positions as the top liveable destinations in the Middle East and Africa, thanks to their relentless strides in healthcare, education, and safety. In 2024, the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index has once again placed these urban giants at the forefront, and the numbers speak for themselves.

Healthcare: Where Wellness Meets Innovation In Dubai & Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have turned healthcare into an art form. The data from the first quarter of 2024 shows that Dubai alone boasts 5,020 licensed and operational healthcare facilities, supported by 13,370 doctors ready to keep the city’s residents in peak condition. Abu Dhabi, not one to be outdone, offers 3,323 healthcare facilities, including 67 hospitals and a small army of 12,922 licensed doctors. The health scene in these cities is more than just functional; it’s a well-oiled machine designed to deliver world-class care with a local touch.

Education & Safety First

But it’s not just about staying healthy—these cities are also deeply invested in shaping the minds of tomorrow. Abu Dhabi’s 459 schools, including private, public, and mixed institutions, offer a diverse range of educational opportunities. Dubai keeps pace with 220 private schools, ensuring that the city’s younger population receives an education as dynamic as the city itself. The focus on education in both cities isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about cultivating an environment where the future generation can thrive.

When it comes to safety, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are in a league of their own. According to the “Crime and Safety Indexes” from Numbeo, Abu Dhabi doesn’t just rank high; it ranks first globally. With a Safety Index score of 88.2 and a Crime Index score of just 11.8, the city is essentially a fortress of tranquillity. Dubai, not far behind, proudly holds the fifth spot in the world’s safest cities list. For residents and visitors alike, this means peace of mind comes as standard, whether you’re walking the streets at night or enjoying the city’s myriad attractions.

Kuwait City, Doha, and Bahrain join Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the top ranks, occupying the 3rd, 4th, and 5th spots, respectively. These cities aren’t just resting on their oil-rich laurels; they’re diversifying, innovating, and creating urban environments that attract talent and investment from around the globe.
