Abu Dhabi Municipality Cracks Down On Overcrowded Houses

With the aim of tackling residential overcrowding, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has launched inspections. Through these inspection operations, they are targeting overcrowded housing. The aim of the initiative is to highlight the importance of fostering a safe living environment and to limit overcrowding. Although the efforts broadly fall under the aforementioned awareness campaign, it also aligns with the goals of
‘Year Of Community 2025’. Returning to the inspection operation, the municipal teams have clarified that although the primary aim is not to issue fines, but instead to raise awareness.

Penalties Up To AED1000

The campaign includes issuing warnings to violators, which will then be followed by penalties, if the overcrowding issue is not solved. As a result, a fine for the violation starts at AED5000 and can reach up to a whopping AED1 million if the violation continues to persist. In fact, as shared on X by the official channel, the awareness video details the significance of addressing this issue.

A Part Of The ‘Your Home, Your Responsibility’

If the residential unit exceeds the number of individuals that are allowed to stay in the unit, it can be quite fatal. Not to mention it also seeks to eliminate any negative consequences that are associated with such issues. Some of the most common effects are compromised safety, violation of established norms, public decency, and even contradicting the principles of public morality in the nation. So, the residents are urged to only rent properties that are registered in the ‘Tawtheeq’ system.

Finally, the department has also placed importance on the reporting of violations. To enforce the law on the regulation of property and residential unit occupancy, it is the job of people to report instances of overcrowding, which they can do so through TAMM platform.
