Dubai–Abu Dhabi To Welcome An AED55 Billion Massive Car-Free City & Here’s All About It!

After the recent announcement of Abu Dhabi turning into a car-free city, a massive AED55 billion project is underway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Yes, even this is a new car-free urban community that’s being built to flip the script on modern living. Set for completion within the next decade, this new city is planned for the Al Mamoura district, right along Sheikh Zayed Road. In short, it’s being positioned smack in the middle of two of the country’s biggest and busiest hubs.

A New Car-Free City To Be Built Between Dubai-Abu Dhabi

This place will be designed to be fully car-free, so forget about peak hour traffic during your commute. It focuses on walkability, safety, and sustainable living. So expect zero risk of road accidents. Just cleaner air, and streets that actually belong to people again. Imagine walking out of your front door and not being greeted by engine roars but birds, chatter, and that rare thing… quiet.

It’s not just housing either. A massive 3-million-square-foot retail mall, yes, you read that right, is in the works. It’s set to be one of the biggest in the region, and let’s be real, that’s no small feat. Even better, the city will hook right up to Etihad Rail, which means zipping between emirates could soon feel less like a trek and more like a breezy weekend plan. Honestly, this move could change the entire rhythm of how people live, work, and travel here.

A Self-Sufficient Urban Playground

This isn’t just another mall-and-metro story. We’re talking about a full-blown lifestyle hub, a place where everything’s right at your fingertips. Pi

Truth be told, this isn’t your standard cookie-cutter development. The blueprint includes a mix of apartments, villas, and townhouses, but also two five-star hotels, because this is the UAE and we don’t do half measures here.

Expect multi-branded properties tied to big names in fashion, hospitality, and lifestyle. And for anyone wondering if it’s all shopping and hotels, not quite. A championship-standard golf course, two universities, three international schools, eight kindergartens, three mosques and two world-class museums are part of the master plan. Yes, it’s a whole ecosystem.

Powering Tomorrow With The Sun

In practice, what really sets this project apart is how it’s powered. The entire development will lean on advanced solar technologies, from rooftops to façades to shaded walkways. According to developers, the goal is to cover up to 60% of its energy needs sustainably. That’s a big deal, especially in a region where the sun practically works overtime.

The city is reimagining how we live, moving from noisy, car-dominated spaces to cleaner, greener, people-first communities. And to be fair, that’s exactly the kind of shift urban life needs.

A Major Partnership Lays the Groundwork

The idea of an AED55 billion Car-free city took flight after a plot sale of AED 2.7 billion, and development agreement was inked between Mira Developments and AD Ports Group. It’s a serious collaboration with a clear intent: shape a sustainable, futuristic city that keeps up with how the UAE is evolving.

Come on, we all know the UAE doesn’t do things small. When it builds, it builds big.
