Foodies, listen up! The geniuses behind Abu Dhabi’s beloved Marmellata are back with a fresh new concept. Did you guess it’s bread and pizzas again? Well, no, it’s not about pizzas this time. Say hello to Barbassi, the city’s soon-to-open snack bar by Marmellata is about to revolutionise your lunch breaks with its Italian-inspired treats.
Barbassi, The “Kid Brother” Of Marmellata With Big Ambitions

Marmellata’s story began as a humble one-night-a-week pizza concept in 2019, spearheaded by the dynamic father-and-son duo, Raj and Sebastian Dagstani. Fast forward to today, and the brand is synonymous with award-winning Italian eats that leave diners weak at the knees. Now, this culinary power team is ready to expand its empire with Barbassi, a spot that’s already giving us major food FOMO.
Set to open this January in Mina Zayed’s ultra-cool M39 district, Barbassi is a “kid brother” with a personality all its own. Unlike Marmellata’s pizza-first fame, Barbassi focuses on stuffed focaccia, cakes, and coffee, all served with a dash of Italian flair. If their focaccia is anything like Marmellata’s pizza crust, you’ll want to camp outside.
Stuffed Focaccia: The Star Of The Show

While Barbassi’s full menu remains a closely guarded secret (cue suspense music), the spotlight is firmly on its stuffed focaccia. Picture fluffy, golden focaccia loaded with decadent fillings, probably the kind that demands an immediate Instagram post. Pair this with some rich Italian coffee, and you’ve got a lunch worthy of endless cravings.
Barbassi won’t be limited to being a feast for your taste buds. Nestled in M39, the space comes with co-working hubs, studios, and creative vibes that scream “cool hangout”. Whether you’re brainstorming your next big idea or simply dodging emails, Barbassi promises to be the ultimate go-to spot.
