What’s happening in Wayanad is devastating. Rescue operations continue in the landslide-struck hill station in Kerala where 344 people are confirmed dead. Actor Mohanlal who is a Lt Colonel in the 122 Territorial Army, visited Wayanad on August 3. He pledged ₹3 crore for rehabilitation work.

Mohanlal Visits Wayanad To Thank Rescue Teams

Wearing an Army uniform, Mohanlal visited the landslide-hit Wayanad on August 3. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his grief as the country is facing its worst tragedy. Mohanlal stated that after seeing this, one realises how in a flash people have lost their homes and near and dear ones and the massive destruction that has taken place. He appreciated all three rescue teams, the Defence forms to every single soul who has played an important role in the rescue and rehabilitation operations.

Mohanlal stated that he belongs to the 122 Infantry TA Madras Battalion. So, their unity with 40 members was the first to arrive at the spot. In his X post, he saluted the selfless volunteers, NDRF, army soldiers, government officials, Fire & Rescue Teams and every single person who has been working tirelessly to provide relief to the victims. Thanking the rescue team for their sincere efforts, he called the “Bailey Bridge” a wonder.

This bridge built over the Iruvanjippuzha River by the Indian Army in record time is 190 feet long. It connects the regions of  Chooralmala and Mundakkai which are isolated by the landslides.

Pledges ₹3 Crore For Rescue & Rehabilitation Works

The Malayalam superstar arrived at Churalmala and later went to other affected areas. The death toll has reached 344 and 206 people are missing. Mohanlal announced that his foundation will give ₹3 crore as part of rehabilitation efforts that have already started.


The landslides in Wayanad are devastating. The negligence by the state government, climate change, unusual weather conditions in the Arabian Sea and the incessant rainfall in Kerala have been stated as reasons that triggered landslides.

The rescue and relief operations by the Army, NRDF, SDRF and civil administration are underway at multiple locations in the region.
