After 4 Months, Vagamon’s Glass Bridge Reopens After Safety Enhancements, Drawing Throngs Of Tourists

Nestled in Kerala, Vagamon has long been a hidden gem for travellers seeking tranquillity, natural beauty, and adventure. After a closure of approximately 125 days due to safety concerns, India’s longest cantilever glass bridge reopens.

Why The Temporary Closure?

Located at Kolahalamedu, the 3,600-foot-high Vagamon glass bridge is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views. You can see far-off places such as Kuttikkal, Kokkayar, and Mundakayam. Nearby, an adventure park enhances the experience with attractions like sky cycling, sky wing, a giant swing, sky roller, zipline, and rocket injector, providing plenty of thrills. The bridge, with its sleek design and transparent flooring, provides a thrilling experience for visitors as they walk above the lush greenery, feeling as if they are floating amidst the clouds.

Despite its allure, the bridge faced a temporary closure shortly after its inauguration. Safety concerns arose, prompting local authorities to take immediate action. The civil engineering department at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kozhikode was commissioned to conduct an interim safety report. It was focused on the importance of maintaining safety standards. During the closure, the team carried out an interim safety assessment and outlined essential safety measures. Once these recommendations were put into action, the bridge received approval to reopen.

Visitors to the bridge will have a maximum time limit of 6 minutes and temporarily closed during inclement weather. For safety reasons, children who cannot walk and need to be carried, as well as senior citizens with mobility issues, will not be permitted on the bridge.
