Recently, IndiGo announced that it was removing the fuel charge it introduced to offset the surge in the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel or ATF. This would have meant that the IndiGo airfares would get cheaper. However, as per the latest reports, the airline has decided to hike the charges it imposes for seat selection. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this particular news.

According to an article which was recently published by India Today, the airline is hiking the charges it imposes on passengers who want to select a seat of their choice. This is a feature that many airlines offer to allow passengers to choose their flight experience as per their preference.

As per the article, initially, the price range of the seat selection charges varied between ₹150 to ₹1,500. However, now the range has increased to ₹2,000. The XL seats which have additional legroom and the ones which are closer to the exit, will cost an additional ₹2,000.

The article also states that a window or aisle seat in the front row of the aircraft A321 will cost ₹2,000. This aircraft accommodates 232 seats. The seats in the middle, in the same area, will cost ₹1,500.

Move Comes After The Airline Removed Fuel Charges

Just last week, IndiGo announced that it was removing the fuel charges that it had introduced to offset the hike in fuel prices were being removed. Since the fuel prices had also dropped, the surcharge was removed. However, now, it has hiked the seat-selection charge.
