Cashless Travel To Finally Start In KSRTC Buses
Come November, over 8,000 KSRTC buses will allow passengers to travel cashless! According to The New Indian Express report, new handheld electronic ticket machines (ETMs) have already been launched in Depot 4. With this new service, passengers can choose their preferred mode of payment to buy bus tickets, without worrying about cash.
To make cashless payments, passengers will have to inform the bus conductor of their destination. Once the conductor adds in all the information on the ETM, it will generate a code with the ticket fare. The passengers can then scan the code to make the payment via UPI or cards like debit or credit. They will get a printed ticket, generated by the ETM. As per reports, the ETM device will have a camera that will validate passes and these printed tickets can last up to 72 hours on a single charge, depending on the destination.

Why Was There A Delay In The Launch Of This Service?
There have been several delays in the introduction of cashless payment options in KSRTC buses. As per the last update, the service was to be launched in June this year. However, due to the existing contract with the ticket vending handheld devices, the new service was delayed. Reportedly, this contract will end in October and the cashless machines will be deployed for ticket vending.
While talking to The New Indian Express, a KSRTC official said that a pilot project is already underway to check the feasibility of cashless payment methods for the buses. Furthermore, once the existing contract ends, the staff will also be trained to use the new devices.
Cashless transactions will definitely be a boon for the passengers of KSRTC buses! What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments!
