Good news, Mumbaikars! Mumbai is all set to get its first greenfield rail terminus in 34 years. The upcoming Jogeshwari Terminus is scheduled to open later this year and will significantly ease congestion at key terminals in the city. No new terminus has been built in Mumbai since 1991, and here’s all you need to know about this new terminus at Jogeshwari.
Mumbai To Get New Terminus After Three Decades
According to Mid-Day, Mumbai will welcome a brand-new greenfield rail terminus at Jogeshwari, near the Ram Mandir suburban railway station. After more than three decades, the new Jogeshwari Terminus is expected to open by October or November 2025. As per reports, this new terminus is expected to ease the burden on existing overloaded terminals like Bandra, Dadar, and Mumbai Central.
The last full-fledged terminus built in Mumbai was the Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in 1991. It is to be noted that while stations like Dadar (Western) and Panvel have been upgraded to mail/express termini, no new ones have been constructed in the city. The Jogeshwari Terminus will feature designated zones for cabs, autos, and vehicle parking facilities for passenger convenience. The new railway terminus is being built at an estimated cost of ₹76.84 crore.
