Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2025 report found that 91% of Indian travellers feel that vacations help them unwind and recharge. And while a long vacation is always welcome, we also love long weekend getaways to unwind and let our hair down! That’s why many Indians are swapping pichkaris for flights this Holi.
From India’s most iconic Holi hotspots to serene escapes where the only colours are vibrant sunsets and lush landscapes, Skyscanner’s report found that these are the most trending destinations this Holi long weekend –
1. Vrindavan and Mathura, Uttar Pradesh
2. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
3. Goa
4. Kolkata, West Bengal
5. Mumbai, Maharashtra
Vrindavan & Mathura Attract Massive Crowds
Spending Holi in Vrindavan and Mathura is something you’ll find on every travel lover’s bucket list! And this time Skyscanner reported a whopping 353% surge in flight searches to Agra, the nearest airport to the iconic Holi hotspots, Vrindavan and Mathura. From Barsana’s ‘Lathmar Holi,’ where women playfully chase men with sticks, to ‘Phoolon wali Holi’ at the Banke Bihari Temple, where petals replace gulaal, the twin cities of Vrindavan and Mathura are the places to be during Holi!
Another crowd-favourite destination this Holi long weekend is Varanasi. It is the second most searched destination for travel between March 12th and 18th, showing how people are ready to embrace the tradition, music, and colours of Banaras this Holi!
Not so surprisingly, Goa is among the top choices of people looking for a relaxing long weekend getaway. Many people are also travelling to Kolkata, to witness Holi as a work of art in motion—with folks rejoicing in colours during the Dol Jatra! Besides Goa, Mumbai is also witnessing many Holi bashes and events, and people are travelling to enjoy Bollywood beats and colour-soaked streets of the city during the festival.
