Air Busan Plane Catches Fire Before Take Off From South Korea Airport
An Air Busan plane, set to fly to Hong Kong, caught fire at an airport in South Korea’s Busan around 10:15 PM local time (6:45 IST) on Tuesday. According to The Times of India, the rear section of the passenger aircraft caught fire and prompted the evacuation of 176 people on board, including 169 passengers and seven crew members.
Social media visuals show people on board being evacuated down inflatable slides. According to the update from South Korea’s Ministry of Transport, the incident occurred when the flight was preparing to take off. However, there is no information on the cause of the fire yet.
Airbus has confirmed the fire and took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce they will fully support the airline in any required investigation. The tweet said, “We confirm that an Airbus A321 aircraft operated by Air Busan caught fire on the ground. We are in contact with the airline and will provide full assistance to the investigation authorities.”
Four Injured But No Casualties Reported
Authorities were able to evacuate everyone from the Air Busan flight that caught fire at South Korea’s Gimhae International Airport. Three individuals, however, sustained injuries but their condition was non-serious. The plane fire was completely extinguished by 11:31 PM local time (8:01 IST).
This incident comes a month after the Jeju Air plane crash, one of the deadliest air disasters in the world in recent times. The plane was flying from Thailand to Muan on December 29 when it crashed on Muan airport’s runway, killing all but two of the 181 people and crew members onboard.
