In a move to boost employee morale and attract top talent, Air India, under the Tata Group’s leadership, announced significant salary hikes and performance-based bonuses for its pilots. This marks a turning point for the airline as it represents the first official appraisal process since its acquisition in January 2022.
Salary Increases And Performance Bonuses For Employees
The new compensation structure, effective from April 1, 2024, offers tiered monthly salary increases ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 for pilots. The amount varies depending on experience and seniority, with senior commanders receiving the highest raise of ₹15,000 per month. First officers and captains will see a bump of ₹5,000 each, while junior first officers will maintain their current fixed pay.
This is just the beginning as Air India has also introduced a groundbreaking annual performance bonus system for its pilots. The bonus amount, which can reach up to a maximum of ₹1.8 lakh, will be determined by both the airline’s overall performance and the individual pilot’s achievements. Meeting expectations can translate to a bonus of ₹42,000 for junior first officers, rising to ₹60,000 for first officers and commanders. Senior commanders have the potential to earn a substantial annual bonus of ₹1.8 lakh.
