If you were planning to hop on a direct flight from Indore to Dubai, you might want to check your itinerary. Air India Express has officially waved goodbye to its direct service between these two cities. The last direct flight took off into the sunset on Thursday night, leaving behind nothing but fond memories and, perhaps, a few frustrated travellers. But don’t start unpacking your bags just yet!
Indore to Dubai? Not Anymore!
The airline, in an unexpected twist, has decided to double down on its flights to Sharjah. Starting immediately, Air India Express will now operate four weekly flights between Indore and Sharjah, up from the previous two. So, while you won’t be landing directly in the glittering city of Dubai, you’ll still be just a short road trip away—after a smooth touchdown in Sharjah, of course.
Sharjah: The New Gateway to Dubai?
The news might come as a shock to those who have been enjoying the convenience of the direct flight since its launch in March 2023. After nearly 17 months of service, the direct Indore-Dubai route has been put on indefinite hiatus. Industry insiders suggest the change is due to the unavailability of suitable time slots at Dubai Airport. Dubai’s runway dance card is full, and Indore’s flight didn’t make the final cut.
So, what does this mean for travellers? Well, if you were counting on zipping directly into Dubai, you’ll now need to adjust your plans slightly. Passengers will first touch down in the less hectic Sharjah and then continue their journey to Dubai by road. Sure, it’s not quite as direct, but hey, sometimes the scenic route offers its own kind of charm.

The Silver Lining: A Smoother Ride
Before you roll your eyes at the inconvenience, consider this: Sharjah Airport doesn’t suffer from the same hustle and bustle as its Dubai counterpart. That means shorter queues, quicker check-ins, and a generally more relaxed travel experience. Plus, the increased flight frequency to Sharjah could offer more flexibility when booking your trip.
Of course, the extra leg of the journey will add a few dirhams to your travel budget. But if you’re a glass-half-full kind of person, you might just appreciate the calmer, cooler vibes of Sharjah before diving into Dubai’s high-energy scene.
So, while we bid adieu to the Indore-Dubai direct flight, let’s not forget that all roads (and flights) can still lead to Dubai—albeit with a short detour through Sharjah. Happy travels!
