The codeshare agreement, which allows airlines to sell seats on each other’s flights, has been significantly expanded by Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA), adding 40 international destinations and 11 Indian cities to their network. This is the first major expansion since 2010. Customers will have more travel options between Singapore and India thanks to this development.
Inside The Air India And Singapore Airline Expansion
Air India and Singapore Airlines will expand their weekly scheduled codeshare services by codesharing on each other’s flights between Singapore and the Indian cities of Bengaluru and Chennai starting from October 27, 2024. The number of codeshare services between the two nations has grown from 14 to 56.
The internal flights operated by Air India between Delhi, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Varanasi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Goa, Jaipur, and other locations would be codeshared by SIA.
But now, SIA customers can travel to 12 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, including Copenhagen, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Nairobi, Amsterdam, Dubai, Riyadh, Colombo, Birmingham, London-Gatwick, and London-Heathrow, using Air India’s international flights from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai.
“Air India and Singapore Airlines have been long-time partners; we are excited to offer our guests greater connectivity to destinations,” said Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Nipun Aggarwal, in a press release.
Both airlines intend to progressively grow their networks through codeshare agreements; pending regulatory permissions, codeshare flights will be offered for sale through their individual booking channels.
In a press release, Singapore Airlines Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Lee Lik Hsin said, “Adding Air India’s domestic network to our codeshare arrangements will also offer our customers enhanced connectivity and convenience in India.”
