From December 1, 2024, all flights on five key metro-to-metro routes of Air India will be operated by erstwhile Vistara A320neo aircraft. Recently, Air India announced its plans to optimise its domestic routes and they have decided to start by using Vistara’s A320-series aircraft on five of its main domestic routes.

According to a press release by Air India, all flights between the following metro cities will now be operated with erstwhile Vistara A320-series aircraft –

1. Delhi and Mumbai
2. Delhi and Bengaluru
3. Delhi and Hyderabad
4. Mumbai and Bengaluru
5. Mumbai and Hyderabad

These flights will offer Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. The erstwhile Vistara aircraft will now operate as Air India’s with ‘AI’-prefixed four-digit flight numbers beginning with ‘2’. For example, a flight from Delhi to Mumbai will bear the number AI2999. The aircraft on these five key routes features 8 luxurious seats in Business Class. Furthermore, it has 24 extra legroom seats in the upscale Premium Economy Class cabin and 132 comfortable seats in Economy.

To offer their passengers maximum choice and flexibility, Air India will also streamline their flight schedules to ensure that departures are spread out throughout the day. For this, they will not reduce frequency but will optimise departure schedules.

Air India is already offering more than 1,000 weekly flights (round trips) on these key routes. On a daily basis, they fly 56 flights between Delhi and Mumbai, 36 on the Delhi-Bengaluru route, 24 between Delhi and Hyderabad, 22 between Mumbai and Bengaluru, and 18 on the Mumbai-Hyderabad route.

It is to be noted that besides Vistara’s A320-series aircraft, Air India will continue to operate one widebody flight each between Delhi and Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. They will use the Boeing 777 or Airbus A350 aircraft for the same.
