In a piece of news that has left people feeling conflicted, Air New Zealand has announced that they will soon start weighing passengers on international flights from the Auckland International Airport. This awkward step is being taken for a survey.

The survey will start from the 2nd of July and will continue over the course of the next five weeks. The airport authorities ensure that the survey is completely voluntary. This means that this step is only a temporary measure and will not be here to stay.

The authorities say that the entire process will be fully confidential and that not even the guards present at the weighing podium will be privy to the number on the weighing scale. The airline also mentioned that the passenger will be weighed separately from their carry-ons.

The survey is essential, according to the airline, as it will reveal important information that will help the pilot better commandeer the plane. In an article published by NDTV, an official from the airline revealed that they were currently weighing everything that goes on the plane, even food.

Since the news was bound to evoke discomfort among passengers, the airline has assured that the process is completely voluntary. This means that those who do not feel comfortable participating can choose to opt out of it.

The airline has also mentioned that they require at least 10,000 people to participate in the survey. The data revealed is said to be of immense importance.
