Talking about the Al-Faw Archaeological Area, it is located at the north western edge of the empty quarter. Revealing human occupation that spans across millennia, it dates from the early nomadic settlements to a thriving and prosperous urban centre in the first millennium BC. As it happens, this area has witnessed skilful interaction with humanity within the environment over a long period of time until there was an irreversible depletion of water resources. The site stands at the intersection of Wadi Ad-Dawasir and the Tuwaiq escarpment.

Once an oasis city that flourished as a pivotal link in the trade route, this excavation reveals successive occupations from about three different civilisations. At this point, it’s pertinent to reveal that the world heritage list already includes the Ḥimā Cultural Area, Historic Jeddah, Rock Art in the Hail Region, Al-Ahsa Oasis, At-Turaif District in ad-Diriyah, Hegra Archaeological Site, and ‘Uruq Bani Ma‘arid.

So, if you are also a history aficionado, we are sure this news comes as a great development.
