There is something absolutely dazzling about deserts as the golden sands shift with the blowing wind, and you are surrounded by acres of these shifting sands. However, as dazzling as a desert can be, it’s also a force to be reckoned with. And a perfect example of this is the abandoned village of Al Madam in Sharjah, which is now expected to be reclaimed from the sand.
Abandoned Village In Al Madam To Be Reclaimed?
Al Madam is an inland town in Sharjah that is located at the intersection of Dubai-Hatta and Mleiha-Shwaib roads. There’s an abandoned village here that comprises empty houses that have been encroached on by the sands of time. And a report by Khaleej Times mentioned that His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, who is the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has issued a directive to preserve this buried village. So, the concerned authorities have been asked to prepare Ghuraifa village for tourists and visitors.

Is This A Ghost Town?
In case you didn’t know, this is an abandoned village that comprises two rows of identical houses. There is also a mosque at the end of the road and the village is located approximately 2 km South-west of Al Madam. However, one must note that this is not a ghost town, as many curious residents and visitors visit the village for a glimpse of the past. Moreover, there are also rumours of supernatural presence in the area! Not to mention, the reason why the village earns the name of the buried village is that this neighbourhood is halfway buried in the Madam desert. Due to its peculiarity, people even tend to visit this village in the peak summer heat! It should be noted that this was once a thriving village, however, residents left the area in 1999 after the government provided them with new houses.
Although there is no clarity about when this project will begin, or when it will be completed, we do have high hopes for the end results!
