Picture a pristine coastline bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. Now imagine that as a canvas for a music festival. How soothing! This lively party combines sun, sand, and party. A similar music event awaits, Alboe by the Beach in Kerala’s Varkala. This contemporary music festival is the latest addition to India’s expanding music festival circuit.
What Is Alboe By The Beach?
Who doesn’t love a laid-back atmosphere, combined with a shared love for music? This one, Alboe by the Beach, is a three-day festival scheduled to take place on the sandy coastline of Varkala. It is an intriguing offering for discerning music aficionados not only in Kerala but around the country. The festival also plans to include music event basics. Expect art installations created by local artists, food stalls, and a curated flea market showcasing indigenous art and handicrafts. As a water-based event, the festival also promises beach games for participants. Whether sitting around a beach bonfire, joining a drum circle, or simply swaying to the rhythm of the music, festival-goers are going to love this.
Attendees can interact with artists, acquire new skills, and help create the festival’s unique vibe. Alboe has declared itself a plastic-free festival, with no plastic allowed on site, with a major emphasis on sustainability and reducing its environmental impact, especially given its location. By raising awareness about environmental issues, this festival hopes to appreciate and protect the coastal ecosystems they temporarily inhabit.
What To Expect?
Aside from the obvious lure of surf (Varkala is India’s best surfing destination) and sand, Alboe by the Beach has unveiled a power-packed roster. Expect South India’s hottest hip-hop talents Brodha V and Arivu, multilingual singer-songwriter Taba Chake, Chennai quartet indie rock band The F16s, and rising performers who have sparked the music industry with their talent and sound.
Hip-hop is India’s fourth most popular genre on Spotify, which Alboe by the Beach celebrates. It features some of India’s most exciting young hip-hop artists. Like Baby Jean, MC Couper, a name that reverberates within South India’s rap community; Tamil rapper and lyricist Paal Dabba and emerging ballsy rap sensation from Meghalaya – Reble, who has even appeared on Boiler Room. They are joined by rapper HanuMankind, who was born in Kerala, raised in Texas, and now lives in Bangalore.
Bands Pineapple Express and Space Is All We Have will bring their prog-fusion and ambient electro-rock sounds to the sandy stage, joining Mary Ann and indie electronica producer Sunflower Tape Machine. Paloma Monappa, a popular DJ and surfing aficionado, will also be present, bringing her bag of sunny tunes.
With a power-packed artist line-up, this music festival is prepared to grab eyeballs!
