In the Catholic world, Medjugorje has long been considered by many as an unofficial pilgrimage site. This is because a number of devotees have alleged witnessing the apparition of Mother Mary on a hill. Since then, the Vatican has not been very forthcoming about these apparitions and has been reluctant to comment on their veracity. However, recently the Vatican has declared that believers may visit the village for an affirmative religious experience. Here’s what it means.
All About Medjugorje, A Village Known For Marian Apparition
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the Vatican City recently gave its nod of approval for devotees to head to Medjugorje. However, it is equally important to note that it did not confirm the sightings of Mother Mary’s apparitions as authentic.
Nevertheless, as per the officials of this religious country, the fruits of the devotional place far outweigh the concerns about the truth of the sightings. As such, the Vatican does not have any objections to devotees visiting the site for religious reasons.
If reports are to go by, it is said that the nod given by the Vatican would increase the influx of religious tourists in the village. This is bound to have some impact on the local economy of this village.
What Does This Mean For Religious Tourism In The Village?
In 1981, it was alleged that six children and teenagers, dubbed the “seers” witnessed apparitions of Mother Mary on a hill. Since then, the apparition allegedly has been recurring. As per the HT article, the apparition has appeared to the “seers” more than 40,000 times since then.
Ever since the visions, the site has become an important spiritual destination for many. It has played a crucial role in affirming the faith of many people and has come to be an unofficial pilgrimage site. Now that it is greenlighted by the Vatican, the place is said to witness even more religious tourists.
