All 32 Indian airports, including Srinagar, Chandigarh, and Amritsar, are now reopened for civil flight operations. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced the reopening of the temporarily shut airports “with immediate effect”. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo also announced that they will resume operations at these airports “at the earliest”.
32 Temporarily Shut Indian Airports Now Open
Amid escalating tensions at the border, the government announced that the temporary closure of 32 airports across North and West India was extended till May 15. However, just three days after this announcement, AAI took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the reopening of all the temporarily shut Indian airports.
“It is informed that these Airports are now available for civil Aircraft operations with immediate effect. It is recommended for travellers to check flight status directly with Airlines and monitor Airline’s websites for regular updates,” the post read.

According to the Hindustan Times, the authorities started reopening the Indian airports on Sunday morning. Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) were issued, informing airports about the reopening. The decision to reopen airports and routes was taken after a discussion with the Indian Air Force.

Airlines To Resume Normal Flight Operations Soon

AAI noted that while the reopening of temporarily shut Indian airports is not a time-consuming process, streamlining airline operations will be. Following the announcement, major Indian airlines like Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet took to social media to announce that they are working to “resume normal flight operations at the earliest.”
