US Government Offices In India To Be Closed On January 9
In remembrance of the late former US President Jimmy Carter, all Government offices in India will be closed on January 9 for his funeral. US Embassy India took to Instagram to share this news and said, “Based on the Executive Order on the federal government closure for President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, all U.S. Government offices in India will be closed on January 9, 2025, including all offices providing consular services.”
Jimmy Carter, the 39th US president, passed away on December 29, 2024. According to the Hindustan Times, a six-day-long state funeral for the former president began on Saturday in his home state of Atlanta. A military body bearer team carried his casket into the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum to lie in repose in Atlanta with the US Army Band playing in tribute. The late former US president’s body will be flown to Washington DC on Tuesday. He will lie in state at the US Capitol before the funeral service on Thursday.
Visa Interviews To Be Rescheduled
Now, since all the US Government offices in India will be closed on January 9, all visa appointments for that day will also be rescheduled. In the official statement, the US Embassy in India said, “Applicants with appointments for US citizen services or visa interviews scheduled for January 9 have received information about rescheduling via email.”
If you’re scheduled for any such appointment on that day and still haven’t received any email, then make sure to check with the concerned authorities once.
