All About The AlUla Trail Race
As mentioned above, The AlUla Trail Race is returning for two days this February. It’s happening on Thursday, the 23rd of February and Friday, the 24th of February with the aim of bringing together sport, heritage, and nature for over 1,000 athletes. So, the much-anticipated event is spread across six categories and each of these offers a unique way of exploring AlUla, without compromising on your strengths. This will ensure that each race is suited to people with varied abilities and skills.

A Trail Running Between The UNESCO World Heritage Site
Spanning two days, there are six categories of races, including a 100-kilometre ultramarathon, 50-kilometre marathon, 10-kilometre fun run, 20-kilometre half marathon, and 1.4-kilometre kids’ race. Not to mention, you get to see the award-winning Maraya, which is the world’s largest mirrored building! Additionally, you will also get to witness the naturally carved wonder of Elephant Rock or the Unesco World Heritage Site of Hegra. Doesn’t it all sound fascinating?

A Brief Glance At The Races
As these races are taking place over two days. Here’s a brief glance at all the races scheduled for this exciting event!
Thursday, 23rd February
- The Arabian Leopard Kids’ Run is the perfect way for kids to have fun without truly exerting themselves. It will kick off at 5:15 pm and children between the ages of 5 to 11 can participate. This trail will be spread over 1.4 kilometres through the AlUla Old Town!
- If you’re looking for something more scenic, then the Sunset Run starting at 6 pm is perfect for you. As such, it is especially ideal for those who’re new to trail running or are still learning new techniques. The easy-peasy 2-kilometre run will make for the picture-perfect dash, as you will get to witness the setting sun below the alluring AlUla horizon.
Friday, 24th February
- The AlUla Trail Race will be a 100-kilometre ultramarathon running across the Sharaan Trail, starting at 6 am. This event will allow the participants to sprint through the stunning Sharaan Nature Reserve and its natural wonders. You’ve got to be 18 or above to participate in this race.
- The 50-kilometre Ashar Valley Trail will begin at 7 am will move along its dazzling landscapes. People aged 18 and above can partake in the marathon.
- The Elephant rock Trail is scheduled for 8 am and people aged 16 and above can partake in the 20-kilometre half marathon. Starting from AlUla’s most iconic natural rock formation, the race will move past farms and through deserts and mountain trails.
- The AlUla Oasis Trail will kick off at 8:30 am and this 10-kilometre trail run is perfect for children and adults alike. You must be aged 12 or above to participate in this one. As the race will begin and end in the AlUla Old Town, the picturesque trail running between the farms of AlUla Oasis, is certainly worth participating in.
Besides the adrenaline-inducing race, participants are bound to have a great weekend as they get to partake in a welcome party and fun-filled post-race events that have been planned at the AlUla Old Town Amphitheatre.
