“Am I The A**hole?,” Asks Flyer For Not Allowing Man To Sit On Paid Empty Seat; Netizens Say No

paid empty seat

A recent Reddit post has sparked a debate about travel etiquette on flights when a passenger forbid a man from sitting on an empty seat next to them. This empty seat was paid for by the passenger for sensitive reasons. However, the man ( fellow passenger) took offence to the same and here’s what ensued.

On Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?”, subreddit, user, @u/Dramatic_Safe_4257  explained that he and his friend purchased the last sea in their row as his friend suffered from social anxiety and was flying for the first time. He explains that she was sitting by the window and he next to her when a man approached them and sat on the empty seat’s armrest. Then, he proceeded to talk loudly to his relatives seated on the other side of the aisle.

The passenger immediately tapped the man on his back and informed him that the seat wasn’t available as they paid for it. However, the man sceptically got up and started complaining to his relatives about the same very loudly. And even went on to mock them. Later, he stood next to the duo for most of the three-hour journey and kept talking loudly to his relatives. He also leaned close, which the Redditor speculated was to provoke him because his friend was taking a nap and resting her legs in the middle.

Netizens Reassure Redditor That He Wasn’t The A**hole

The Redditor stated that the staff should have done more. Even after the flight the man and his relatives kept giving dirty looks to the friends. But the passenger laughed at him for making a spectacle of himself on the flight. “What do you guys think”, asks the Redditor, as he previously admitted that he doesn’t fly often and isn’t well aware of travel etiquette on flights.

Netizens flooded the comments section in large numbers and assured the Redditor that he didn’t do anything wrong as he paid for the empty seat next to him. @These-Confidence-18 stated that since he paid for the seat, no amount of complaining would change that. @ghrutnsn comments NTA ( Not The A**hole). However, the Redditor suggested the passenger be less passive next time and even page a flight attendant in times of need.
