Flights connect different destinations together, whether across the world or country. While long-hour flights tend to be very exhausting, this recent long-route flight has made history. After leaving Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, American Airlines Flight AAL7 travelled 13,357 kilometres, the longest route in history, and arrived at Brisbane Airport in Australia about 16 hours later.
Timeline of This Longest Route Flight
According to a spokesperson for American Airlines, the Boeing 787-9, which made its first non-stop flight between two cities, took off at 9:57 p.m. (US time) on Saturday and arrived at 4:57 a.m. (Australian time) on Monday, 33 minutes early. The flight was operated by three pilots, a relief captain, and eleven flight attendants, as reported by CNBCTV18. This special occasion was celebrated by livestreaming the flight’s landing on Brisbane Airport’s YouTube channel.
Over 12,000 people watched a live stream at Brisbane Airport, where they were given a front-row window seat through a runway camera to see the longest route flight. The airline did not reveal the number of passengers on board; however, as per reports, there were 285 passengers.
American Airlines provided customers with a gift bag at DFW Airport’s gate event celebration, including a Koala plushie, a commemorative postcard, and a voucher for a free Koala moment at Brisbane’s Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.
Flight footage shows crew members placing American and Australian flags outside the cockpit during landing. During the livestream, Brisbane Airport spokesperson Peter Doherty praised the connection between two cities and countries, predicting it could be one of the most tracked flights in the world.
