Amid Iran Airspace Closure, Air India Reroutes Flights; Multiple Airports Issue Advisories

Due to the sudden closure of Iranian airspace following heightened tensions in the region, several Air India flights have either been diverted mid-air or returned to their origin cities. The airline has announced multiple route changes affecting flights between India and key international destinations. Airports, including Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), have also issued passenger advisories, urging travellers to stay updated with their respective airlines.

Amid Iran Airspace Closure, Air India Flights Rerouted Across Continents

Air India took immediate action to ensure passenger safety following Iran’s airspace closure. As reported by Air India’s official X account, at least 15 long-haul flights have been diverted or returned. These include aircraft flying between India, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Flights such as AI130 (London-Mumbai) were diverted to Vienna, while AI102 (New York-Delhi) landed in Sharjah. AI116 from New York to Mumbai was rerouted to Jeddah, and AI101 (Delhi-New York) is heading to Frankfurt or Milan, depending on real-time coordination.

Other affected flights include services from Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, and Washington D.C., all of which are now being redirected to alternate hubs in Europe or the Middle East. Return flights from Delhi and Mumbai to destinations like London and New York have also turned back.

Air India is providing accommodation to stranded passengers and has offered full refunds or complimentary rescheduling options for those affected by this disruption.

Mumbai And Delhi Airports Issue Travel Advisories

CSMIA confirmed on Instagram that Mumbai Airport is functioning without disruption. However, it advised travellers to check with their airlines before arriving at the terminal. The statement came in response to the operational impact resulting from the Iran airspace closure.

Passengers travelling to or from Mumbai should expect possible delays or cancellations depending on the airline’s response to the developing airspace restrictions.

Delhi Airport also issued an advisory stating that operations remain normal for now. However, some flight schedules may be affected due to evolving airspace conditions over Iran, Iraq, and neighbouring regions. Passengers have been requested to follow cabin and check-in baggage rules, cooperate with security and airline staff, and check with their respective airlines or the official Delhi Airport website for the latest updates.

Both airports are coordinating with airlines and aviation authorities to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for all passengers.

Passengers Urged To Stay Updated

Air India is updating its passengers through its official website and social media channels. According to the airline, guests can check live flight status at airindia.com.

While the situation in Iranian airspace evolves, airlines and airports are working to manage operations smoothly. Passengers should regularly check flight notifications and stay in touch with their airlines until further notice.
