To commemorate the nation’s 75 years of independence, memorials will be erected in each village and panchayat. It’s aim is to honour those who gave their lives in the struggle for freedom. Or was a members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty. Here is every detail you need to know about this decision of the Indian government.
Every Village Will Have Memorials For The ‘Veers’
The memorandum created by the Union Culture Ministry states the nodal ministry for all projects under the Amrit Mahotsav programme. It will also signify the conclusion of the 75-week-long Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on August 15 of this year. These memorials, known as “Shilaphalakam”, will be constructed in each village and unveiled between August 9 and August 15. In fact, the government has established the memorial’s dimensions and design.
These courageous individuals are freedom fighters, defence personnel, members of the Central Armed Police Forces and State Police who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The letter states that ‘Shilaphalakams’ will be built close to Amrit Sarovars in these villages. Or another suitable waterbody if there isn’t an Amrit Sarovar nearby.

There Will Be An ‘Amrit Vatika’ Too!
According to the ministry, each village’s proposed memorial site would host a ceremony where participants will declare their devotion to India by making a promise. The promise calls for eliminating any remnant of the colonial mindset and devoting oneself to the defence and progress of the nation.
On a website dedicated to the campaign, participants will be encouraged to upload a selfie they took while making the commitment and holding the soil in their hands. As per the plan, 75 seedlings of native plant species would be planted on the site.
As per the Indian Express report, the organisers have planned the grand finale on the Kartavya Path. Here, the soil from all around the nation will be used to create a special garden named Amrit Vatika with plants of native species.
The message states that an AKAM Memorial will be built as a homage to everyone who worked to ensure the independence, harmony, and integrity of India. The Prime Minister, several ministers, officials, and diplomats, as well as the relatives of some of these freedom warriors, are likely to attend the event.

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) will be used to carry out the memorial plaque’s construction. It aims to utilise local materials and resources.
