Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway

Boosting India’s road infrastructure, the upcoming Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway will improve road connectivity in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. One of the key features of this project is that it will reduce travel time between Amritsar and Jamnagar to around 12 hours, from the current 26 hours. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), if all things go as planned, then the expressway will open to the public in December 2025.

Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway To Reduce Travel Time

Connecting Amritsar in Punjab to Jamnagar in Gujarat, the upcoming expressway stretches almost 1,257 km. It is designed to have 6-8 lanes and is being built at an estimated cost of around ₹80,000 crore. According to a Jagran report, the expressway will pass through the Thar Desert. Travellers will only see sand on both sides of the expressway for almost 650 kilometres on this stretch.

One of the key highlights of the massive Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway is that it will reduce the travel time from the current 26 hours to about 12 hours, upon completion. Currently, covering just the Rajasthan portion on this route takes approximately 12 hours!

The expressway will connect key cities and districts in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat–improving road connectivity in these states. Furthermore, the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway will give a financial boost to these regions as it will pass through several business-centric zones of India.

As per NHAI’s update, the construction work on the expressway is on track and will be completed by December this year. Once completed, this expressway will become the second-longest road in India.
