The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are poised for a tourism boom. The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved an Integrated Check Post (ICP) that will allow foreign nationals with e-visas to enter through Port Blair seaport. This decision aims to make the islands a top destination for global tourists. The new policy also extends to five other major Indian seaports, including Mumbai, New Mangalore, Cochin, Mormugao, and Chennai, thus facilitating seamless entry for e-visa holders across the country.
Tourists With E-Visas Can Now Enter Through Port Blair
Tourism Secretary Vishwendra highlighted the prime period for yacht charters, stating that October to May offers calm seas, perfect for exploring the region’s stunning beaches and lagoons. The tropical climate during these months is ideal for yacht tourism, a key attraction for visitors.
The islands are famous for their vibrant coral reefs and serene waters, making them a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers. With the new e-visa policy, these natural wonders are now more accessible. The Integrated Check Post will streamline the process, making it easier for international tourists to experience the unique beauty of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Premier Global Tourist Destination
The government considered every detail to ensure a smooth experience for international guests. The introduction of the ICP aligns with the vision of transforming the islands into a premier global tourist destination. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are set to gain a prominent place on the global tourism map, attracting not only foreign travellers but also Indian yacht enthusiasts and businessmen.

They believe the introduction of e-visas will be a game-changer. Previously, yachts and cruise ships could only pass by the islands. Now, they can dock, bringing both direct and indirect revenue to the local economy.

However, challenges remain. One significant concern is the high import tax on yachts, which hovers around 50 per cent.
