The Andaman Sea was jolted by a third earthquake on Monday. The tremor, with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale, struck the region around 12:06 pm at a depth of 10 km, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The Andaman Sea, which falls in Seismic V, is a place which is highly prone to earthquakes.
Back-to-Back Earthquakes In The Andaman Sea
As per a report in The Times of India, the Andaman Sea experienced yet another earthquake on Monday, its 3rd in a row. This one, measuring 4.7 in magnitude, occurred at 12:06 pm. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) also confirmed the news on its official X account, with the caption: EQ of M: 4.7, On: 30/06/2025 12:06:25 IST, Lat: 9.60 N, Long: 93.79 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea.

A High-Risk Earthquake Zone
It should also be noted that another earthquake was reported in the Andaman Sea on June 25. This one measured 4.2 on the Richter scale and occurred around 1:43 am, as per TOI. It was recorded at a depth of 20 km, with its epicentre located at 9.46°N latitude and 94.07°E longitude. The NCS had confirmed this as well on its official X handle.
The Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands fall in Seismic Zone V, which is among the most earthquake-prone zones in India. According to the Ministry of Earth Sciences, this area lies along the Alpine-Himalayan seismic belt, which is a region known as one of the most active earthquake zones in the world. That explains why tremors here are not uncommon.
