Anupam Kher Believes Getting Viral On The Internet Is Fantastic But Also Tragic; Here’s Why

‘The Kashmir Files’ actor Anupam Kher was in conversation with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for this epic episode of Sunday Brunch. With a career spanning nearly four decades, Anupam sir has nailed every character on the big screen. During the conversation, we touched on the subject of going viral on the internet and here are his thoughts; read on.

Anupam Kher On Going Viral On The Internet

Anupam Kher was talking about his journey in Bollywood and how he has remembered every life lesson taught by his father to this day. He mentioned, “I came to this city on 3rd June 1981 with ₹37 in my pocket and today I am talking to Kamiya about my life! Kuch bhi ho sakta hai!”

The ‘Vijay 69’ actor’s life motto is “Kuch bhi ho sakta hai.” It is something his late father, Pushkar Nath Kher, used to say and diligently abide by. Anupam picked up his life mantra from his father and was ready to face his rollercoaster life!

Continuing on the same thought process, Anupam Kher spoke about how going ‘viral on the Internet’ is a tragedy. Elaborating on his view, “You go viral for one day, which is fantastic, but it’s a tragedy also. Because after one year, you were once upon a time a viral person.”

He listed a couple of formerly viral phenomena like South Korean singer, PSY’s Gangnam Style or Kacha Badam by Youtuber Bhuban Badyakar. They went viral and now nobody knows where they are!

In this world, where Internet fame and name are present for a limited time, he doesn’t want individuals to prioritise instant viral-ness. The actor doesn’t believe in achieving success in a short period as the audience quickly moves on to another viral personality.

With videos going viral each day, it is difficult for creators to retain their popularity. Therefore, Anupam urges folks to not be content with short-lived virality and to aim for consistent fame.
