28-YO Anupam Kher Portrayed A 65-YO Man In His Debut Film!

While we were on the tour of his acting institution, Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares, we stumbled upon his room of accolades and accomplishments. Anupam Sir’s trophy cases were loaded with stunning achievements like the Padma Bhushan Award in 2016 and the Padma Shri Award in 2004. The actor calls this space his “showoff room!”

Some images from notable events throughout his life were also framed. Among them was a poster of his recent film, ‘Vijay 69’. Directed by Akshay Roy, it focuses on an ex-swimming coach who attempts a triathlon at the age of 69. Anupam Ji feels incredibly proud to play the lead character in this film.

Kamiya quipped, “Finally, you are playing your age! Currently, you are 69 and even the movie’s title is ‘Vijay 69’.” The actor remarked, “I played my age when I was 28! I played a 65-year-old man’s role in the film ‘Saaransh’.” It was Mahesh Bhatt’s drama film released in the year 1984.

His Thoughts On ‘Saaransh’

Recalling his earlier days of being an actor, Anupam Kher revealed that looking back at the stills of his debut film, ‘Saaransh’, he couldn’t recognise his 28-year-old self! He said, “I think that is someone else, not me. It was my first film; I thank God for it. I wanted to establish myself as an actor and there was nothing better than this dream debut.” He also thinks about what would have been his career trajectory if he didn’t play the part of an aged man. He is genuinely grateful to be cast as B.V. Pradhan in ‘Saaransh’.
