Peru has proven to be a region rife with historical wonders hidden beneath its surface. Recently, two major discoveries have been made in the region. Both discoveries were made in the northern region of the country. Archaeologists found a polychrome wall that is around 4,000 years old and a tomb that is more than 3,000 years old. Here is why both of these discoveries are important for archaeologists.
Polychrome Wall And Tomb In Peru Discover
In a series of events that must have left archaeologists quite stunned and thrilled, two new discoveries were unearthed in Peru. One was a polychrome wall which was as old as 3,000 years and the other was a tomb of a priest which was around 3,000 years old.
Both of these discoveries were found in the region of northern Peru. According to an article recently published in Indiatimes, the wall was initially found in 2020 while a few farmers were working in the field. Archaeologist Feren Castillo soon approached the site and commenced excavation with his team.
After three years, they have managed to ascertain the age of the wall, which according to him, dates back to the pre-ceramic age. The tomb, on the other hand, belongs to a priest who is believed to be an important figure from the ancient Andean society.

Why Are These Discoveries Significant?
The priest is dubbed ‘Priest of Pacopampa’ and his tomb was decorated with ceramic bowls. It is also suspected that the body was coated with ceremonial body paint. This was a sign that the deceased was of high social stature.
It reveals important details about the practices of the culture at the time. As per reports, it is possible that the priest was buried around 1200 BC.
On the other hand, the polychrome wall has important visual and structural elements and was used to build an important part of structures like arches. The wall reveals important information about the architecture of the pre-ceramic age.
