India’s defence personnel work 24/7 to keep our country safe. But, to do their job, they need to be at the peak of their health and fit. And so, to promote a healthier diet amongst the forces, the Armed Forces canteens have decided to “bite the millet” and include THIS in their menus.
Armed Forces Canteen To Include Millet-Based Menu
The Ministry of Defense plans to promote healthy eating habits among defence personnel. They will introduce a millet-based menu in messes, canteens, and other food outlets of the armed forces.
On July 13, the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to implement this initiative. As per reports by the Indian Express, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya signed the agreement.
Lieutenant General Preet Mohinder Singh, director general (supplies and transport) from the Defence Ministry, and Inoshi Sharma, executive director of FSSAI, were also present during the signing.

Consuming millet can contribute to better digestion, as it is high in dietary fibre. It also helps in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels due to its low glycemic index.
Millet is gluten-free, making it a suitable choice for individuals with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease. This move to integrate a millet-based menu into the armed forces canteens seems to be reassuring in terms of health benefits for the personnel.
