As Delhi Has A Floodlike Situation, Check This Delhi Metro Route Change Advisory Before Stepping Out

The rising number of natural calamities has led to disruption throughout the world and India is surely experiencing it in full force. With places all over India receiving heavy rains and flooding, The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has issued a special advisory keeping in mind the rising levels of river Yamuna.

Due to the increasing water level of the Yamuna River, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that the road leading to Yamuna Bank Metro Station will be inaccessible. Additionally, a speed limit of 30 km/hr has been enforced for metro trains crossing the Yamuna River tracks.

On July 10, the water level in the Yamuna River reached an unprecedented height of 208.05 meters, surpassing the danger mark. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted that the road leading to Yamuna Bank Metro Station is currently inaccessible due to rising water levels.

They advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative routes. However, it was mentioned that an interchange facility is still available, as per reports by NDTV.

Yamuna Levels Rising; A Cause For Concern

On July 12, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) also released a notification regarding specific cremation grounds in the vicinity of the Yamuna River. The MCD advisory stated that the Geeta Colony crematorium is experiencing waterlogging, and there is a concern about water potentially entering the Nigam Bodh Ghat.

In response to the increasing water level in the Yamuna River caused by continuous rainfall, the Delhi traffic police have issued a commuter advisory. Traffic diversion has been implemented on multiple roads, such as ISBT road, GT Karnal Road, Nigam Bodh Ghat road, and Ring Road near ITO.

And near the old Yamuna bridge – ‘Loha Pul, Indira Gandhi Stadium road, and low-lying areas near Kashmiri gate as reported by NDTV.

India is witnessing the adverse impacts of rising climate change, with heavy rainfall events becoming increasingly common. These heavy rains lead to a variety of challenges, including rising water levels in rivers like the Yamuna.
