Asha Bhosle is not only a legendary singer with a remarkable eight-decade music career but also a fabulous chef! She owns multiple Indian restaurants across the globe where her signature dishes are listed on the menu. The ‘Dum Maro Dum’ singer joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for this awesome episode of Sunday Brunch in Dubai. Check out the reason behind her passion for cooking.
Asha Bhosle’s Jealousy Made Her A Fabulous Cook
After enjoying a grand tour of Asha’s with the owner herself, we sat down for a conversation. We began with food and the singer’s innate love for cooking. She told us that travelling to different places for work was a regular thing. Through this, she mingled with diverse cultures and people. In turn, she learned about various cuisines and techniques.
Asha Ji told us that her kids would often praise someone else’s cooking. This would eventually sadden her as she wasn’t available to cook meals for them due to her work commitments. She thought to herself, “My kids are enjoying and complimenting other’s cooking and not mine! I must change that.” So, she was adamant about learning lip-smacking dishes from the people around her. And she truly did!
On hearing this, Kamiya jokingly commented that Asha Bhosle’s passion for cooking stems from jealousy. This observation made our guest laugh a little. Over the years, she mastered her culinary skills. Now her kids and even grandkids praise her culinary talents over everyone else.

She Also Knows How To Make Momo!
Next, Asha ji spoke about her special Maa ki dal recipe. She learned this dish from Peshawari folks and has aced it. Hence, her maa ki dal is Peshawari-styled and she swears that we would never find it anywhere else. This truly intrigued our hungry souls and we couldn’t wait for the brunch to start.
The next food item she mentioned blew our minds – momos! Asha shared that she also has the skills for making mouthwatering and authentic momo. She learned it from Mala Sinha, a former Indian actress. Asha Bhosle’s passion for cooking is not limited to dal, kebabs, biryani, or mutton curries, she also picks up dishes like momo and more. Woah!
