Asha Bhosle On Constant Comparision To Lata Mangeshkar

Asha Bhosle and the late Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary sisters of the Indian music industry, have made waves with their melodious voices. They practically ruled the music industry back in the day and even now. However, as public figures, they faced many comparisons between themselves.

Asha Ji shared that she was compared to her sister throughout her eight-decade career. She said, “Hamesha, zindagi bhar, ek tarazu mein mujhe bithate the istaraf aur usko ustaraf bithate the.” Through this, she emphasised how people calculated their talents on a pair of scales to figure out who was the better singer.

Despite all these harsh comparisons, Asha ji never let it affect her. Instead, she focused on the quantity of work and sang over 12,000 songs throughout her career!

Lastly, about comparisons to Lata ji, Asha ji said, “Bolne mein kya, bolte hai. Hum apna kaam karte jayen.” She appears to follow the mantra from the popular 1972 song ‘Kuchh Toh Log Kahenge’ by Kishore Kumar!
