Asha Bhosle

The 91-year-old living legend and singer, Asha Bhosle joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani in Dubai for this special Sunday Brunch episode. We had the honour of touring one of her popular restaurant outlets, engaging in deep conversations and relishing delicious Indian food with the singer. She recalled her precious childhood days and talked about her lovely parents along with annoying yet sweet siblings; read on.

What Were Asha Bhosle’s Meals Like At Her Childhood Home?

Asha ji reminisced about her childhood days before indulging in a scrumptious meal at her restaurant in Dubai, Asha’s. She began by talking about what it was like growing up with three other siblings in a musically inclined family. It was a chaotic household with futile quarrels among the siblings. But they would always come together to enjoy music and rehearse.

Next, she revealed that her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar, hailed from Goa and was a non-vegetarian. While her mother, Shevanti Mangeshkar, was a Gujarati and a pure vegetarian. Despite her mother being a pure vegetarian, there was not a single day fish, mutton or chicken wasn’t prepared for meals!

Asha ji pointed out that during her childhood, she ate fish in the mornings and mutton in the evenings, followed by chicken the next day. Seems like the Mangeshkar family wasn’t lacking in their protein intake!

With all these amusing conversations about Asha ji’s childhood, Kamiya was interested in learning about who was stricter as a parent. The singer spoke about how her father was the favourite parent among the siblings. He constantly showered them with love and never raised his voice at his kids.

Meanwhile, her mother scolded all the kids. They were extremely scared of their mother as she not only scolded them but also hit them if they behaved mischievously. One of the parents has to be strict and in this case, it was their mother. Then again, they were pampered by the father, so it was all good.
