Assam is a state that is going through a lot of transitions and infrastructural developments. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced that the state is set to get two additional major infrastructural projects. Assam will soon have a flyover which will be 32 kilometres long and an underwater tunnel. The two projects are said to significantly boost the development of the state.
Assam: Flyover & Underwater Tunnel To Be Built Soon
The plans for two projects were unveiled by the CM. He stated that these two major projects will be materialised at the soonest. The elevated corridor will pass through the Kaziranga National Park and will be 32 kilometres long.
On the 7th of August, which is celebrated as National Handloom Day, the CM made this announcement. The intent is to improve the connectivity in the state. He also said that alongside this major infrastructure project, another ambitious project will be undertaken.
This will be the underwater tunnel which will pass from under the Brahmaputra River. It will connect Gohpur to Kamar gaon located in the Golaghat District. According to an article recently published by the Construction World, this amazing new project will cost around ₹40 billion.

Will Be Reminiscent Of Movie Scenes
According to the CM, once completed, the underwater tunnel will be reminiscent of scenes from movies. However, given that Kaziranga National Park is home to a diverse ecosystem of different plants and animals, it is worth pondering the damage that the project will do to the environment.
India hasn’t been immune to the impact of climate change and it is important to be mindful of the threats that it brings with it. Though it doesn’t seem wise to spoil the pristine habitat of Kaziranga with a roadway that will frequently witness a number of cars and therefore pollution, it is hoped the flyover will be built with the environment in mind.
