Monsoon season has finally arrived. Where for many, it brings relief from the toiling heat, for others, it brings anything but that. The recent heavy rains in the Indian state of Assam have led to dangerous flooding which continues to get worse by the day. As per many reports, close to 5 lakh people have been affected by this. Many people are looking for support and shelter from the unyielding rains. Here are the details about the Assam flood.
Assam Flood: Close To 5 Lakh People Affected & 2 Dead
There’s a dreadful flood currently engulfing Assam. Many people have been rendered destitute because of it. The flood is a result of extremely heavy rainfall that has been pouring in Assam during the past couple of days. The rainfall has led to the swelling of the river Brahmaputra which worsened the flood.
According to an article recently published by the livemint, close to 500 thousand people across three sub-divisions and 16 districts have been affected so far. The death toll so far has risen to two people, one of whom passed within the last 24 hours because of flooding in the town of Ghograpar in Nalbari district.
According to the article, Bajali was impacted the worst. More than 267 thousand people have been affected here. Nalbari comes after in terms of people being affected with more than 80 thousand who were affected. In Barpeta, more than 73 thousand people were impacted.

Rescue Operations Underway
The article also goes on to mention that close to 10 thousand hectares of land have been engulfed by the flood. The land was precious to the local farmers as it was used to grow crops. As per the article, there are a total of 140 relief camps across the country.
Around 75 relief distribution centres are also operational. These combined relief centres are currently supporting more than 35 thousand people. Regions like Tamalpur, Udalguri, South Salmara, Sonitpur, Sivsagar, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Biswanath, and Baksa have reported landslides as well.
