The infrastructure of Northeast India is steadily improving. To that end, a new road has been constructed that has significantly reduced the time taken to travel from Assam to Meghalaya. If reports are to go by, this road will significantly ease transportation and will provide a smooth, pothole-free journey to those who use it. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this new road in the Northeast.

According to an article which was recently published by The Shillong Times, this new road will cut the travel time between Assam and Meghalaya to half. It is constructed by Badri Rai And Company or BRC.

The road stretches across 36 kilometres and cost more than ₹78 crore to build. It will connect Damra in Assam to Bajengdoba in Meghalaya. Initially, it took around 1.5 hours to travel between these two destinations.

However, after the completion of the road, it will only take around 45 minutes to cover the same distance. Compared to previous versions of the road, this one will reportedly have a longer lifespan and motorists will have a pothole-free journey.

This new road will be especially useful for the residents of North Garo Hills or NGH. The construction of this road first started in 2020 but it was delayed considerably owing to a number of reasons. It is finally complete now.

This new road highlights the infrastructure developments taking place in Northeast India. The need for this road was dire. The completion of the road shows that the needs of the citizens have been taken heed of. Once travel between the two states has been eased, it will allow local trade and commerce to boost as well.
