A few days after the Kedarnath temple opened its doors for the pilgrims of Uttarakhand, the Badrinath temple is also set to reopen. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is nestled amidst the mountains in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is one of the four temples of Cham Dham, the other three being Yamunotri, Gangotri and Kedarnath. Read on to know the details.
What’s Happening?
Badrinath temple will reopen after its winter closure on 15th May 2020, with only 27 people, including the main priest. The temple authorities have arranged special opening day rituals in Pandukeshwar’s Yog Dhyana Badri Temple, that falls en-route to Badrinath. Then they will take the idols of Badrinath, Uddhav and Kuber to the Badrinath shrine. However, no devotees will be allowed to attend the event, complying with the safety protocols issued by the Centre to combat the spread of coronavirus.

What Else?
A high-level meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s residence about the opening of the shrines this year amid the COVID-19 scare. Even during the opening ceremony of the Kedarnath temple on 28th April 2020, pilgrims could not enter the temple. However, the temple opened its gates a few days later only for the Uttarakhand citizens. Badrinath temple is reopening only two days before the scheduled end date of the current lockdown period. We can anticipate that the temple authorities might soon open Badrinath too, at least for the local visitors, following the norms of social distancing.
