Food is one of the essential elements without which survival is impossible. Different sections of people have different food habits. Indians prefer dal, sabzi, chawal and roti for their main course. Americans would go for cheeseburgers, barbeque ribs and more. Vietnamese might opt for rice vermicelli, rice-paper wrappers or pork rolls. Also, vegetarians are used to having pulses, paneer, fruits and vegetables. Non-vegetarians are used to having chicken, mutton and other forms of meat. But now, certain organisations and political bodies are issuing bans on non-vegetarian food. The question arises here, is food too becoming a political tool? Read on to know more.

Meat Ban In Delhi Sparks Outrage!

As Navratri is going on, South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Mukkesh Suryaan has ordered the closure of meat shops till April 11. He said that the sale of meat during Navratri might make the devotees observing Navratri fast uncomfortable. The move has sparked massive outrage among people. Some people stated that banning meat sale for nine days would affect the business of the meat shop owners and sellers. Some others urgued that food habits should be a person’s individual choice. A user also stated that not all Hindus observe Navratri and there should be no agonising on what to eat. The mayor also wrote to the CM asking for a ban on liquor for nine days, if possible.

Ban On Non-Vegetarian Meals In Flights Demanded

Not only has SDMC put a ban on meat sales, but Gujarat Animal Welfare Board members and the Jain community also demanded a ban on non-vegetarian meals on domestic flights by sending a letter to the Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia.
