You need deep pockets to rent a property in Bangalore this year. After all, India’s Sillicon Valley is facing an unprecedented rental surge, where rents have almost doubled since the beginning of this year. So, Bangalore is undoubtedly India’s most-sought out residential market. Tweeple have taken to the microblogging site to chart out their rental woes in the IT hub. A woman recently tweeted about her landlord suddenly increasing the rent. Here’s what happened when she confronted him about the same.

Khushboo Verma(@khushbooverma_), a software engineer took to Twitter to reveal that her Bangalore landlord hiked her rent without any warning. She goes on to add in her tweet that the landlord ignored the terms of their contract. On asking him for an explanation, he simply said that if she doesn’t like it, she can leave and find a new place to stay. Her tweet resulted in many other Bangaloreans sharing their rental woes in the comments section.
My Bengaluru landlord hiked up the rent without any warning, completely ignoring the terms of our contract.
And when I asked for an explanation, he simply said ‘If you don’t like it, you can leave and find a new place.’

The software engineer even adds that rent has increased by a whopping 100 per cent in her area in just one year. Khushboo Verma also says that her experience reminds her of an incident faced by her friends. In that case, her friends vacated the apartment but the landlord apparently found 100 minor problems in the upkeep of the apartment and refused to refund the hefty security deposit.

@Sudeep9167 found solace in Khushboo’s tweet and shared his rental woes. Sudeep says that his landlord increased the rent by 50 per cent without any warning. And while he vacated his home, he, unfortunately, ended up paying 80 per cent more for the new one. @arya_rohit07 recollects the time his landlord raised the rent from 45k to 70k for a semi-furnished 3BHK. While the landlord finally settled down to 60k, he still gave him a choice to vacate if he doesn’t want to pay the rent.
It has happened to me too when living in Bangalore. Two landlords cut hefty amounts from my deposits, even though I keep my places very well maintained.
And in the years since I left Bangalore, this problem only seems to have increased at least 20X.
