Bangladeshi Woman Sets Guinness World Record For Eating 37 Rice Grains With Chopsticks In Just 1 Min

Eating with chopsticks is quite a task. No doubt it’s alluring. There could be peer pressure (Instagram, we’re looking at you!). But if you’ve ever eaten with chopsticks, you know the joy we’re talking about! And if you don’t, there’s no stress either, a fork will always do the trick! Taking chopstick skills to new heights, a Bangladeshi woman recently broke the Guinness World Record for eating 37 grains of rice in one minute.

Guinness World Record For The Best Chopstick Game!

On September 28, the official Instagram handle of the Guinness World Records (GWR) shared a video of their newest entrant. A Bangladeshi woman Sumaiya Khan was seen expertly manoeuvring chopsticks to eat 37 rice grains in one minute. In the caption, congratulating Khan, GWR mentions that it’s the most number of rice grains eaten in one minute using chopsticks.

The feat was achieved by Khan on February 17, 2024. Forget rice grains, eating fully cooked morsels of rice using chopsticks is quite a task. But there are veterans who have nailed their chopstick game. Earlier, Teland La set a record of eating 27 rice grains using chopsticks in April 2022 in Stanford, California. Khan broke Teland La’s record.

Interestingly, eating food using chopsticks has health benefits. It helps one to take smaller bites of the food and chew the food thoroughly before leaning in for the next bite. People also believe that it aids with digestion, weight management and nutrient absorption. But it does take a while to master the cutlery. One can try practising picking up pulses and rice grains before proceeding to cooked food like noodles or sushi.

Netizens Have Mixed Responses

With Sumaiya Khan bagging the Guinness World Record, people had mixed responses to her feat. While many congratulated her, some chided Guinness World Records for “running out of ideas”. Others challenged her and commented that they could easily beat her record. Another commenter joked about breaking the record for “overthinking”.
