On 26th February 2025, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi witnessed an extraordinary spiritual gathering as thousands of devotees arrived to celebrate Maha Shivratri. This marked the first Hindu festival celebrated at the Mandir since its grand inauguration, making the occasion even more momentous.

From the break of dawn, the temple grounds buzzed with excitement. Devotees, dressed in traditional attire, stood in long yet orderly queues, their eyes reflecting both devotion and gratitude. The day’s festivities began with heartfelt prayers dedicated to the UAE’s leadership, acknowledging their generosity in making this spiritual haven a reality.

A Day Of Faith, Fasting And Festivities

The celebration officially kicked off at 9:00 AM with the Shiv Puja, drawing worshippers from all walks of life. By 9:30 am, the sacred Shivabhishek ritual had begun, where devotees poured water and offerings over the revered Shivlinga, symbolising purification and devotion. This sacred practice will continue throughout the day until 7:30 PM, ensuring that every visitor has the opportunity to offer their prayers.

The atmosphere will be filled with divine chants and the rhythmic sounds of bells, creating an ambience of deep spiritual connection. Pilgrims experience immense peace as they participate in prayers, fast in devotion, and soak in the Mandir’s grandeur. For many, this is more than just a religious gathering, it is a home away from home, bringing back cherished memories of Maha-Shivratri celebrations in India.

Strict Yet Smooth Arrangements

With thousands of attendees, ensuring a seamless experience required meticulous planning. The Mandir authorities enforce strict entry guidelines to maintain order and security.

1. All visitors have to pre-register and present a government-issued ID along with their QR code for entry.
2. Volunteers will diligently assist the crowd, ensuring smooth movement within the temple premises.
3. People of determination will be given priority at entry points and wheelchairs will be readily available for those in need.
4. The UAE government’s emergency weather guidelines are communicated to all visitors, reinforcing social awareness alongside spiritual engagement.
