Bassam Freiha Art Foundation is going to be the newest addition to the cultural scene in Abu Dhabi. Yes, opening in March, this will be located in the Abu Dhabi Saadiyat Cultural District. A non-profit organisation, this has been founded by philanthropist and art collector, His Excellency Bassam Freiha. Moreover, this is the first and the only private art foundation in the cultural district. Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming art space in Abu Dhabi.

Bassam Freiha Art Foundation To Open In March

With the aim of showcasing a global art collection, Bassam Freiha Art Foundation is opening its doors on March 4, 2024. In fact, it will be situated on Saadiyat Island, it will offer visitors an opportunity to discover rarely-seen works. Yes, this would be drawn from the private collections locally, regionally, and internationally. Moreover, the exhibition program will cultivate an extensive and inclusive slew of cultural and educational initiatives.

Echoes Of The Orient To Be The Inaugural Exhibition

The aim of BFAF is to become a flagship space for inspiring other collectors to share their masterpieces with the public. So, in line with its mission, which aims to showcase art pieces from private collections, the inaugural exhibition is titled ‘Echoes of the Orient’. Yes, this will feature an array of works from Orientalist Movements from the private collection of His Excellency Bassam Freiha. Additionally, these will also be juxtaposed with 19th-century photography and creations by renowned contemporary and modern Arab artists. Not to mention, it is centred on the theme of femininity! And it has been envisioned through the Orientalist art movement.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that this will run alongside an exhibition in the foundation’s Annex Gallery called Reclaiming Visions. Featuring photographic works of US-based Iraqi Palestinian Artist, Sama Alshaibi, the work will be from her Carry Over series. And this will be along with poetic sculptures by Emirate artist Azza Al Qubaisi.

So, once the art space opens, it will certainly make for a great place for art enthusiasts, who wish to get a glimpse of the private collections owned by people around the globe.
