Bathe, Feed & Play With Elephants At Dubara Elephant Camp In Coorg

It’s too mainstream to pet dogs and cats, when you can actually pet elephants. Experience this in Dubara Elephant Camp situated in Coorg, Karnataka where the elephants are revered in natural habitat.

What Is It?

On the banks of River Kaveri in Kodagu, Karnataka lies a lush green moist deciduous forest which is revering many animals. This includes Asiatic elephants (mostly found), Sambhars, spotted deer, wild dogs, leopards, gaurs.

The elephants here are taken for a bath in morning (before 11 AM) to the river where the tourists are allowed to bathe them. A scrub is given to clean it’s thick skin. The elephants are very friendly so they splash some water on you too. Don’t forget to carry an extra pair of clothes.

After this heavenly shower, it’s time to feed their hungry tummy. You can feed them with their staple meal i.e. jaggery-hay cakes – jaggery in the core covered by layers of hay.

The herd has elephants of all age groups. Right from 1 year to 85 years. Also they are known for their friendly and lovable conduct with the tourists. They really enjoy all the love and care and the attention they get.

Tourists come here to seek blessings from there elephants. Also now they know how to exactly behave in front of a camera. And if you are lucky they would even strike a pose or two for you!

What’s Else?

For all the adventure lovers, you can do river Rafting on the wild tides of Kaveri river to reach this place (₹600). For others, there is an option of reaching this place by a steamer too. Other activities like fishing and elephant rides are also carried on.
