Doddagubbi Lake

We have some good news for all the Bengaluru folks! The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has rejuvenated the Doddagubbi Lake in the city. With this restoration, the authorities believe that the water availability will be enhanced in the nearby villages by the next monsoon. Scroll on to know more about this.

BBMP Brings Life Back Into Doddagubbi Lake

The 125-acre Doddagubbi Lake has been brought back to life by the BBMP. According to the New Indian Express, with this restoration, villages such as Kannur, Kadusonnenahalli, Doddagubbi, Chikkagubbi and many others in the Mahadevapura Zone will have better water availability. This is mainly due to the fact that borewell recharge will improve after this rejuvenation.

BBMP hired VIMOS Technocrats Pvt Ltd, a firm specialising in water body management, to study and prepare a restoration project for Doddagubbi Lake. As per the BBMP lake division officials, the restoration project was completed at a cost of ₹9.5 crore.

In the 2023 summer, many borewells in villages surrounding Doddagubbi Lake dried up. With heavy rain during monsoon that year, some borewells began functioning. Now, with inlet repairs, stormwater drain connections, and improved storage capacity, groundwater levels are expected to shoot up in all the surrounding villages.

The rejuvenation of Doddagubbi Lake included removing silt deposits, conducting hydraulic studies to construct inlet and outlet channels and ensuring an efficient network for water flow. These measures resulted in the lake’s ability to retain stormwater at full capacity. While talking to New Indian Express, Younus Parvez, managing director of VIMOS Technocrats Pvt Ltd, mentioned that they have restored the main bund of the lake. He further mentioned that they constructed a ring bund to create a designated walking path around it.
