Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway in the past three months has witnessed over 10 tragic accidents. These accidents on the expressway has claimed over 15 lives. Following a surge in accidents, Kolar Police have now imposed a ban on two-wheelers, autos and tractors on certain sections of the highway. Here are the latest updates on this situation.
Autos, Tractors & Two-Wheelers Banned On Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway
As per a report by Hindustan Times, tractors, two-wheelers, and auto-rickshaws will be prohibited from running on certain sections of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway. Karnataka’s Kolar Police imposed this rule after the expressway was riddled with a spate of devastating accidents in the past few months. The reason behind quickly imposing the ban came on June 9, Monday. A car slammed into the divider near the Hedaginabele toll plaza in Malur taluk. The two passengers in the car breathed their last on the spot.
To prevent such accidents from taking place again, the police banned slow-moving vehicles from entering certain sections of the expressway. The police believe slow-moving vehicles are hazardous on the high-speed corridor. A senior police officer stated to HT that slow vehicles cause traffic to slow down. This results in drivers quickly braking to prevent a pile-up. When they do so, they often lose control and crash.

High-Speed Corridors Have Warning Signs To Prevent Accidents
In March this year, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) released a circular. In this circular, the highway authority clearly announced the ban on two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors and bullock carts from plying on the corridor. Despite the circular, they remained lax. And the police continued to witness violators who endangered their own lives and those of others on the expressway.
A police officer from the BEML Nagar Police Station in KGF ensured that a ban had been put in place. He stated to HT that the police have installed warning signs on the expressway. Moreover, they have imposed a complete ban on tractors, auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers within their jurisdiction.
